URL is a web address of a webpage. A URL is a generally of two forms:
- Absolute URL- Absolute URL refers to the full or complete address of the file on WWW. the full address includes protocol uses, server name, pathname and filename. They are needed when linking to webpages are not related directly.
Absolute URL's must be specified when you are linking to webpages that are located on a different website's i.e. for external links.
- Relative URL's- Related URL's are partial address of a webpages instead of complete address as in case of absolute URL. In a relation URL, the protocol and server parts of URL are omitted and the remaining parts of URL are provided relative to current file. It is because relative URLs are typically used for internal link i.e. to create links to files that are part of same website as the webpage you are placing the link.
Relative url's are used-
- when the destination and source webpages are placed in the same directory when the destination webpage is in a subdirectory that is in the directory that contain source page.
